The Burnetts of Leys hold law courts for their tenants, and so sit in judgement on the social, civil and criminal activities of their community. During this hour-long event, Dr Adelyn Wilson, Senior Lecturer and legal historian at the University of Aberdeen, will introduce you to the surviving manuscript record of the Burnett's court and explain the court’s importance in all aspects of contemporary life, while short playlets will bring to life cases heard by the Burnetts. Were the Burnetts fair judges? Were their tenants good people? Come along and find out – you might even have the chance to get involved!
